Industrial facilities that process flammable and hazardous substances must carefully monitor environmental conditions to prevent accidents and ensure safe operations.
However, both refineries faced limitations with their existing meteorological monitoring systems.
One facility relied on an ultrasonic wind sensor that consistently underestimated wind speed measurements. This created uncertainty when determining whether weather conditions required operational restrictions.
Another facility was operating meteorological equipment installed during the initial commissioning of the refinery. The system measured only wind parameters and required manual data collection. The lack of remote access and limited functionality reduced the ability of personnel to quickly respond to changing weather conditions.
At industrial sites where operations such as product loading, work at height, and maintenance activities depend on weather conditions, inaccurate or delayed meteorological data can significantly increase safety risks.
