Impact on ecology and efficiency

We took the conservative estimate — and the numbers still impress!

How it all began.
No more wires!

In 2018 we introduced the world's first fuel-level sensor transmitting data over BLE. Back then it felt risky — the market was used to wired solutions.

In 8 years the technology became an industry standard for integrators, fleet owners, vendors and monitoring-platform developers. Today TD-BLE runs on thousands of assets across dozens of countries!

An idea born in Mexico City
At a trade show in Mexico, an Escort manager struck up a conversation with a representative of TomTom, maker of the world-famous navigators. They were interested in working together — but integration would need a wireless sensor. That only convinced Escort's leadership: worth a try! The business said, "We need this." The engineers replied, "We'll build it."

"Let's try BLE"
The idea to master Bluetooth Low Energy — new to the design office. Smartphones already supported it, but almost no one used it in telematics, let alone in fuel-level sensors.

Today it seems integration was always there — how could it not be BLE?! But early on we had to make the case for it. Thanks to the first partners who believed in it and helped us!

Making a sensor truly accurate is harder than it looks. The devil is in the details: mechanics, potting compound, precise tolerances. Miss a tiny thing and the readings drift. That's why behind TD-BLE's accuracy stand an engineering school and years of refinement — work that never stops.

01
Protective housing
A custom housing designed specifically for the wireless sensor. Impact-resistant, built for vibration, temperature swings and the harsh environment of a fuel tank. A secure mount for the measuring tubes and an explosion-proof design — for heavy machinery.

02
Board with BLE module
Escort's own design based on Bluetooth Low Energy. The key here isn't the hardware but the data format: the team made it simple and extensible — and it became a de-facto standard. That's why the sensor integrates directly with trackers from a wide range of makers.
Bluetooth 4.0 · Own protocol
03
Self-contained power
A lithium battery in a separate compartment. It's easy to replace without opening the board or breaking the seal — which dramatically simplifies servicing. But to find a reliable and safe battery, Escort's engineers had to travel the whole world!
Autonomous · Replaceable battery
04
Sealed enclosure
A sealed installation in the fuel tank with two independent sealing loops. The board and the battery compartment are sealed separately — moisture and fuel vapours never reach the electronics.

05
Measuring probe
A capacitive measuring principle on two coaxial aluminium tubes. The probe length is matched to each specific tank. Proven mechanics, inherited from wired sensors and refined to a new level of reliability.

Our story

From an experiment
to a million

First prototype boards, 2017

Today Escort is preparing to release its millionth TD-BLE. Behind that number is the story of a technology that began with a small engineering team — and the wish to solve a problem every installer knew well.

From dev-board experiments and cutting the wires to a protocol that became an industry standard — and a million changes along the way.
