Automated Concrete Mixer Monitoring in France with DU-BLE Wireless Tilt Sensor

Summary

This case study describes how Escort DU-BLE angle sensors helped automate concrete mixer monitoring and create a traceable digital workflow for ready-mix concrete delivery.

Application: Ready-mix concrete production
Equipment: Escort DU-BLE wireless tilt angle sensors
Client: Telematics integrator / ready-mix concrete producers
Location: France
Result: 200+ mixers equipped across 30+ companies, automated proof of delivery events, reduced manual reporting errors, and objective data for quality control and dispute resolution

Issue

Legal obligations, manual errors, and invisible quality risks

In France, ready-mix concrete producers are legally required to document every delivery milestone: departure from the batching plant, arrival at the construction site, start of discharge, and return time. For years, concrete delivery relied on manual reporting from drivers, which proved inconsistent and prone to error.

As fleets expanded, this approach exposed producers to operational and financial risk. Manual entries created inconsistencies, disputes over waiting time became frequent, and there was no objective visibility into drum rotation behavior during transport.

Yet drum rotation is directly linked to concrete quality. Excessive RPM while driving accelerates degradation. Insufficient remixing before discharge affects homogeneity. Extended waiting time on site compromises material performance. Despite these risks, the process inside the mixer remained largely unmonitored.

Producers needed automation, traceability, and defensible digital proof without complex retrofitting or vehicle downtime.

Solution

Wireless angle sensor integrated into a fully synchronized workflow

French telematics integrator Trakkeo implemented a scalable architecture built around the Escort DU-BLE wireless angle sensor.

Mounted directly onto the mixer drum using industrial magnets, the sensor requires no drilling or structural modification. Installation takes approximately ten minutes per vehicle, enabling rapid fleet-wide deployment without immobilizing trucks.

The sensor detects the tilt angle of the mixer drum and automatically identifies the moment when concrete pouring begins. Data is transmitted via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the telematics platform in real time. In the monitoring interface, drum rotation is displayed as positive or negative RPM values, clearly distinguishing between mixing and unloading.

The DU-BLE continuously detects drum rotation direction and speed, distinguishing between mixing and pouring in real time. It records RPM, total rotations, and discharge events. Integrated with Teltonika FMC230 and FMC650 GPS trackers and synchronized with batching plant systems, the solution automatically logs:

Departure from plant
Arrival on site
Start of pouring
Waiting time duration

All data is transmitted to the telematics platform and synchronized with plant databases, eliminating manual input from drivers and creating a complete digital delivery timeline.

What was once a mechanical process became a traceable, auditable workflow.

Results

200+ mixers, legal protection, and operational transparency

The deployment has scaled to more than 200 concrete mixers across 30+ companies in France, with expansion underway in Spain and Morocco.

Beyond operational visibility, the system has delivered measurable business value:

Automated and objective proof of delivery events
Documented mixing history for quality verification
Reduced risk in customer disputes
Measurable on-site waiting time for logistics optimization
Fast installation with no vehicle modification
High reliability supported by multi-year battery life

The recorded data has already been used in dispute resolution cases, allowing producers to demonstrate exact arrival times, waiting duration, pouring start time, and mixing compliance. Discussions that previously relied on driver statements are now supported by digital evidence.

Following the successful rollout, additional monitoring layers are being tested, including pressure-based detection of unauthorized water addition and integration of fuel level sensors to improve fuel accuracy and prevent theft.

This case demonstrates how wireless angle telemetry can elevate concrete delivery from a partially manual process to a transparent, auditable, and scalable digital standard for the ready-mix industry.
